Baccarat chemin de fer is played with 8 decks of cards in a shoe. Cards valued less than 10 are valued at face value while 10, J, Q, K are zero, and Ace is one. Wagers are made on the ‘bank’, the ‘player’, or on a tie (these aren’t really people; they just represent the two hands that are dealt).
Two cards are dealt to both the ‘banker’ and ‘player’. The score for each hand is the sum total of the cards, but the first digit is discarded. e.g., a hand of five and 6 has a value of one (five plus 6 = eleven; dump the first ‘1′).
A 3rd card may be given using the rules below:
- If the player or bank has a score of 8 or nine, the two players stand.
- If the gambler has 5 or less, he hits. Players stands otherwise.
- If the player holds, the banker takes a card on five or less. If the player hits, a table is used to see if the house holds or takes a card.

The greater of the two totals wins. Winning wagers on the house pay out 19 to 20 (even money less a five percent commission. The Rake is recorded and paid off when you quit the table so be sure to have funds left over before you quit). Winning bets on the player pays out at 1 to 1. Winning bets for a tie typically pays out at eight to one but occasionally 9 to 1. (This is a poor wager as a tie occurs lower than 1 in every 10 hands. Be cautious of betting on a tie. Although odds are astonishingly better for 9 to 1 vs. 8 to 1)
Played correctly baccarat gives pretty decent odds, aside from the tie wager of course.
Baccarat Banque Method
As with all games baccarat chemin de fer has some established false impressions. One of which is similar to a false impression in roulette. The past isn’t an indicator of future events. Keeping score of previous results at a table is a waste of paper and an affront to the tree that was cut down for our paper needs.
The most familiar and likely the most accomplished method is the one-three-two-six tactic. This tactic is employed to maximize winnings and minimizing risk.
Begin by placing one chip. If you win, add one more to the two on the table for a sum total of three dollars on the second bet. Should you win you will hold six on the game table, subtract four so you have 2 on the 3rd bet. If you succeed on the 3rd bet, put down 2 to the 4 on the game table for a total of 6 on the 4th wager.
If you don’t win on the 1st wager, you take a hit of 1. A win on the initial wager followed by a hit on the second brings about a loss of two. Success on the first two with a hit on the 3rd provides you with a gain of 2. And success on the initial three with a loss on the fourth means you break even. Winning at all four bets leaves you with twelve, a profit of ten.
